PURITY
MARTINI VARIATIONS

It’s easy to fall in love. Again, again and again.

PURITY DIRTY MARTINI
The Dirty Martini has a history as rich and savory as the drink itself. Believed to have originated in the late 19th century, it was originally made with gin and a splash of olive brine. Later, during the 1930s, the vodka version became popular. Its name comes from the "dirty" appearance of the drink due to the addition of olive brine. The Dirty Martini continues to be a favorite among cocktail enthusiasts, with variations that include additional ingredients such as blue cheese-stuffed olives or jalapeño brine.

Ingredients
5 parts Purity Connoisseur 51 Reserve Organic Vodka
1 part dry vermouth
1 part Olive Brine
3 Olives

Method
To create the perfect Dirty Martini, begin by chilling a martini glass in the freezer. In a mixing glass, combine Purity Connoisseur 51 Reserve Vodka and high-quality dry vermouth. Add olive brine for a traditional Dirty Martini, or adjust the amount to your liking.

Add ice to the mixing glass and stir gently for around 30 seconds. Take the chilled martini glass out of the freezer and strain the cocktail into the glass. Garnish with 3 high-quality olives, depending on your preference.

For a unique twist, try adding a splash of jalapeño brine or blue cheese-stuffed olives to create a variation of the classic Dirty Martini. Enjoy your expertly crafted cocktail, you’re worth it!

PURITY GIBSON
Unlike a traditional Martini, the Gibson boasts a pickled onion garnish that lends a savory, umami flavor profile. In fact, the Gibson is only truly a Gibson when that delectable onion tops off the glass.

While the origins of this classic cocktail remain shrouded in mystery, some attribute its creation to Walter D.K. Gibson, a prominent San Francisco businessman who frequented the Bohemian Club in the late 1800s. However, it wasn't until William Boothby's 1908 book, The World's Drinks And How To Mix Them, that the Gibson appeared in print. Interestingly, the Gibson was initially known for what it omitted—bitters. Unlike early Martinis, which typically featured a dash of orange bitters, the Gibson consciously excluded this ingredient. The iconic cocktail onion didn't become synonymous with the Gibson until years later.

Ingredients
5 parts Purity Connoisseur 51 Reserve Organic Vodka
1 part dry vermouth
Cocktail onion

Method
We recommend this simple yet elegant recipe for the Gibson. Begin by combining vodka (or gin) and dry vermouth in a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir the mixture until it's properly chilled and perfectly blended.

Next, strain the liquid into a pre-chilled cocktail glass, creating a sleek and sophisticated presentation that will impress any guest.

Finally, garnish the cocktail with a single cocktail onion, adding a subtle but savory flavor note that elevates the drink to new heights.

Martini Enthusiasts: A Toast to Famous Figures and Their Legendary Martinis

by Mathias Tonnesson, Master blender at Purity Distillery

The Martini, a symbol of sophistication and refinement, has captivated the palates of numerous famous individuals throughout history. From esteemed writers and statesmen to beloved actors and comedians, these personalities had a special affinity for the iconic cocktail. Join me as we delve into the intriguing stories and witty anecdotes of famous Martini enthusiasts, and discover their unique preferences and humorous quotes that added flavor to their Martini experiences.

Ernest Hemingway: The Montgomery Martini:

Ernest Hemingway, the legendary writer, possessed an unparalleled passion for the Martini. Hemingway's dedication to the cocktail was so renowned that Philip Greene penned a book exploring Papa's drinking habits and the role of cocktails in his works. Hemingway crafted his own version called "The Montgomery," named after General Sir Bernard Law Montgomery. This Martini consisted of a gin-to-vermouth ratio of 15 to 1, mirroring Montgomery's preference for overwhelming odds on the battlefield. Hemingway's icy-cold Martini secret? Freezing water in tennis ball tubes to create colossal ice cylinders, while also freezing the glasses and the Spanish cocktail onions for garnishing.

Luis Buñuel: A Primordial Role.

Luis Buñuel, the celebrated filmmaker, credited Martinis with playing a "primordial" role in his life. Known for his avant-garde approach, Buñuel humorously suggested that connoisseurs who desired an exceptionally dry Martini should allow a ray of sunlight to pass through a bottle of Noilly Prat vermouth before it reached the gin. Buñuel's personal Martini recipe involved chilling all the ingredients, including glasses and the shaker, in the refrigerator the day before guests arrived. With ice maintained at a temperature of about twenty degrees below zero, Buñuel advised pouring a few drops of Noilly Prat and a hint of Angostura bitters over the ice, stirring it, and discarding the liquid. Finally, he instructed pouring straight gin over the ice, giving it a final stir before serving.

W. Somerset Maugham: The Noilly Prat Fanatic.

W. Somerset Maugham, the renowned British novelist, held a particular fondness for Noilly Prat French vermouth in his Martinis. Maugham believed that a true Martini could not be replicated with any other cocktail, stating, "You can make a sidecar, a gimlet, a white lady, or a gin and bitters, but you cannot make a dry Martini." Additionally, Maugham championed the stirring technique, emphasizing that Martinis should be stirred, not shaken, allowing the molecules to sensuously intermingle.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt: The Traveling Martini Kit.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, had an ardent love for Martinis, so much so that he traveled with his own martini kit. Roosevelt's preferred Martini was the Dirty Martini, consisting of two parts gin, one part vermouth, olive brine, a lemon twist, and an olive. With his trusty kit in tow, Roosevelt ensured he could savor his favorite libation wherever his presidential duties took him.
