What’s the Secret Behind the World’s Smoothest Vodka?

Our Proprietary Copper Surface Distillation method.

The Alchemy of Copper: How Purity Crafts the World’s Smoothest Vodka

In the heart of southern Sweden stands an eight-story copper still—imposing, elegant, and unlike anything else in the spirits world. Designed by Master Magician Leif Nerhammar in collaboration with engineers from Kothe Destillationstechnik, it is both a marvel of precision engineering and a symbol of Purity’s unshakable philosophy: take no shortcuts. Rush nothing. Let time and copper do what they do best—transform something good into something extraordinary.

This towering structure, designed for our proprietary Copper Surface Distillation, isn’t just equipment—it’s a commitment. To care. To patience. To true smoothness. It’s here, within this handcrafted masterpiece, that Purity Vodka begins its journey: from organic grains and pure Swedish water to the smoothest, most refined vodka in the world.

To understand what makes Purity different, you first have to understand copper.

Copper has been used in distillation for centuries—not just because it looks beautiful, but because it works. Scientifically, copper reacts with sulfur compounds naturally produced during fermentation. These compounds, if left unchecked, lead to harsh, acrid flavors and a burning finish. But when vaporized spirit passes over copper, those compounds are neutralized, leaving behind a cleaner, purer, and far smoother result.

But we didn’t stop at using copper. We went further. We built a system that maximizes copper contact like no other. Our process isn’t just about touching copper—it’s about lingering in it, flowing across it, engaging with it at every turn

The Magic of 51 Rounds

Each expression of Purity Vodka undergoes a different number of distillation cycles through our copper still. The number isn't just marketing—it reflects the time, care, and transformation each spirit goes through:

  • Purity Signature 34 Edition: Heart distilled 34 times. Smoother, richer, ideal for martinis or sipping neat.

  • Purity Connoisseur 51 Reserve: Heart distilled an astonishing 51 times. A 20-hour process of transformation, resulting in a vodka so smooth, so expressive, that it has redefined the category.

Each round of distillation is another opportunity to refine. Another layer of impurity removed. Another deepening of flavor, texture, and smoothness. Where most distilleries aim for speed and output, we embrace slowness. Purity’s philosophy is simple: if it doesn’t elevate the spirit, we don’t do it.

Slow for a Reason

Purity’s copper surface distillation isn’t fast. It wasn’t designed to be. The Connoisseur 51 Reserve takes nearly 20 hours from start to finish. Each pass through the still allows vapor to condense, flow, and rise again. The visual, seen through glass portholes on each level, is mesmerizing. Spirit vapor curls, condenses, falls, then climbs again—each time interacting with copper, each time becoming more refined.

This slow pace isn’t wasteful. It’s intentional. It’s what creates our signature character. And it’s why we don’t need to filter our vodka afterward—because the impurities are gone before the spirit ever leaves the still. What’s left is clean. Balanced. Beautiful.

No Filtration. No Compromise.

Most vodka brands filter their spirit—sometimes aggressively—to strip out off-notes or mask imperfections. Not us. We don’t filter because we don’t need to. The purity of our process makes filtration unnecessary. And more importantly, it protects the spirit’s natural character.

Filtering can flatten a vodka, reducing it to neutrality. But neutrality isn’t the goal. True smoothness means texture. Depth. Subtle flavors that whisper, not shout. Filtration removes all of that. Our copper still preserves it.

So when you sip Purity, what you taste is exactly what we intended: a spirit of integrity, made with nothing to hide.

Crafted from Organic Excellence

Our process doesn’t begin in the still—it begins in the soil.

We use only the highest-quality organic ingredients: primarily organic winter wheat and barley. These grains are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, ensuring purity from the very start. They lend a soft sweetness and complexity to the spirit—a base worth honoring.

Sourcing organic isn’t just about taste. It’s about responsibility. Better for the land. Better for our partners. Better for the people who drink it. When you start with something honest, it’s easier to make something exceptional.

Every Drop Has a Signature

Each bottle of Purity carries the signature of our Master Blender, Mathias Tönnesson. That signature isn’t a marketing flourish—it’s a personal promise. A guarantee that what’s inside meets the highest possible standard.

Mathias doesn’t sign off until the spirit is perfect. That means hours—sometimes days—of sensory testing, lab analysis, and instinct. He’s not just looking for smoothness. He’s listening for harmony. Watching for texture. Waiting for that moment when the vodka stops being a product and becomes an experience.

True Smoothness You Can Feel

So what is true smoothness? It's not a marketing phrase. It’s a sensation, a glide, not a burn. It’s the absence of harshness and the presence of balance. It’s a vodka that you can sip neat, and not wince. That can elevate a cocktail, not disappear in it.

You feel it on the first sip: a softness that coats your tongue. No sharp edges. No bitterness. A warmth that fades gently, leaving a whisper of character behind.

And that smoothness isn’t accidental. It’s the direct result of our copper surface distillation process. It’s why we go slow. Why we use organic ingredients. Why we don’t filter. Every decision we make is about creating a smoother, more soulful spirit.

Award-Winning, World-Leading

This dedication to craft hasn’t gone unnoticed. Purity has received more than 239 international awards—including being named the highest-rated vodka in the United States, and earning global recognition for our gin as well.

But while the medals are appreciated, they’re not the goal. The real reward is in knowing that we’ve changed the way people think about vodka. That we’ve shown smoothness can have soul. That we’ve made excellence accessible.

An Icon of Accessible Indulgence

Our process doesn’t begin in the still—it begins in the soil.

Purity was built on the belief that luxury doesn’t have to mean exclusivity. That world-class spirits can be enjoyed by anyone who values quality.

Our Signature 34 Edition Vodka is priced alongside mainstream vodkas like Ketel One—but it’s organic, unfiltered, and far smoother. Our Connoisseur 51 Reserve Vodka rivals Grey Goose, yet offers unmatched texture and nuance. And all of our gins - Nordic London Dry, Old Tom, and Navy Strength, bring layered flavor with a clarity only our copper distillation can achieve.

We believe indulgence should be earned, not priced. And with every sip, we prove that true craftsmanship can be within reach.

Why We Keep Doing It

Distillation, done right, is an act of devotion. It’s the choice to go slow in a world that values speed. To go deep when others go wide. To care about the things no one sees—because they affect everything you taste.

We continue to do it because it matters. Because you can taste the difference. Because once you experience vodka made this way, there’s no going back.

Because smoothness this true can’t be faked. It has to be crafted.

Born from Nature. Refined by Copper. Perfected by Purpose.

That’s the story of our copper surface distillation process. It’s what defines us. It’s what sets us apart. And it’s what ensures that every bottle of Purity Vodka isn’t just another drink—it’s an experience worth savoring.

Because when copper meets time, and time meets intention, something remarkable happens.

Purity is born.
