The spritz began in northern Italy in the 1800s, when visitors to the Veneto softened the local wine with a splash of water. Over time the water became sparkling and the spritz became a ritual of its own: light, bright and made for long afternoons.

This version adds floral elderflower, a touch of lemon and Prosecco. Vodka 51 Connoisseur Reserve gives it a soft, rounded base, so the flowers and bubbles feel elegant rather than sweet.

Light enough for the afternoon. Polished enough for the evening.

How to make it

Fill a large stemmed wine glass with plenty of ice.

Add Vodka 51 Connoisseur Reserve, elderflower liqueur and fresh lemon juice.

Pour in the Prosecco slowly, then give the drink one gentle stir with a long spoon to bring everything together without losing the bubbles.

Top with soda water to taste and finish with a thin lemon wheel tucked into the glass.

From the Master Blender

Build it in the glass and stir only once, gently, after the Prosecco goes in. Every extra turn of the spoon costs you bubbles. Add the soda last and slowly, and taste before you add more: elderflower liqueur is sweet, and a little extra soda keeps the drink crisp.
